Since the 2012 election there has been a re-alignment of political parties. The 
Social Liberal Union (SL) coalition of the Social Democrats (PSD), National 
Liberals (PNL) and Conservatives (PC), which won a large majority in 2012, broke 
up in February 2014, with the PC being renamed as the Alliance of Liberals and 
Democrats (ALDE) and three new right-populist parties - People's Movement (PMP), 
United Romania (PRU) and Save Romania (USR), emerging. These changes make 
comparisons with the 2012 election results impossible.
