At the time of the 2000 election, the Legislative Assembly 
consisted of 60 members, 45 elected from single-member 
constituencies and 15 elected by proportional representation from 
national party lists. All 45 single-member seats were won by 
“independent” candidates (in fact supporters of President Aksar 
Akayev).
