TASMANIA ==================================================================== HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY ==================================================================== THE EIGHTH PARLIAMENT ELECTED MAY 1882 ==================================================================== The Seventh Parliament was opened on 11 July 1882 and was dissolved on 28 June 1886. Sources -------------------------------------------------------------------- Newspaper reports, Tasmanian Parliament website, Bennett and Bennett Summary -------------------------------------------------------------------- Party allegiances of elected members are taken from an article in the Hobart Mercury, 1 June 1882. This was a very one-sided election, producing a large majority for the supporters of William Giblin's ministry. There were 23 ministerial suppoters, eight Opposition supporters and the Speaker. The lack of partisan feeling was shown by the fact that 19 members were elected unopposed. Giblin held office until August 1884, when he retired and was succeeded by Adye Douglas, who held office until the 1886 election. VOTING BY CONSTITUENCY ==================================================================== The number of enrolled voters in each district is taken from the 1883 edition of Walch's Almanac. The total enrolment for the colony was 16,419. The average enrolment was therefore 513. The largest enrolment was 1,012 in Hobart West and the smallest was 114 in Glamorgan.
