TASMANIA ==================================================================== HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY ==================================================================== THE SIXTH PARLIAMENT ELECTED SEPTEMBER-OCTOBER 1872 ==================================================================== The Sixth Parliament was opened on 22 October 1872 and was dissolved on 25 May 1877. Sources -------------------------------------------------------------------- Newspaper reports, Tasmanian Parliament website, Bennett and Bennett Summary -------------------------------------------------------------------- Party allegiances of elected members are taken from a list in the Launceston Weekly Examiner, 19 October 1872. According to this list, 12 supporters of the outgoing Wilson ministry were elected, while 18 supporters of the opposition were elected. One member had no party loyalty, and the final seat was held by the Speaker. Accordingly Wilson resigned and Frederick Innes formed a ministry, which survived until it broke up in August 1873. Alfred Kennerley MLC then formed a ministry in which Innes served. He was succeeded in July 1876 by Thomas Reiby, who retained office until the 1877 election. These changes of ministry meant that there were 24 by- elections during this Parliament.
