QUEENSLAND ==================================================================== LEGISLATIVE ASSEMBLY ==================================================================== THE FIFTY-SIXTH PARLIAMENT ELECTED 25 NOVEMBER 2017 ==================================================================== The Fifty-Sixth Parliament was opened on 13 February 2018 and dissolved on 6 October 2020. Sources -------------------------------------------------------------------- Election Commission of Queensland, Queensland Parliament website Summary -------------------------------------------------------------------- Annastacia Palaszczuk's Labor government was re-elected at this election, winning majority government with a net gain of four seats, despite polling only 35% of the primary vote. The LNP suffered an even greater decline, and suffered a net loss of three seats. Three minority parties - One Nation, the Greens and Bob Katter's family party - won 26% of the vote between them, with the Greens winning one seat and One Nation returning to the Assembly after an absence of eight years. Tim Nicholls resigned as LNP leader after the election and was succeeded by Deb Frecklington. Labor suffered a blow in May 2020, when Deputy Premier Jackie Trad was forced to resign following allegations of corrupt conduct. The Crime and Corruption Commission found no basis to the allegations, but she did not return to the ministry. The 2017 redistribution enlarged the Legislative Assembly from 89 to 93 seats. The Labor seat of Mt Coot-tha was abolished. Five new seats were created: Bancroft, Jordan and Macalister (all Labor) in Brisbane, Bonney on the Gold Coast and Ninderry on the Sunshine Coast (both LNP). Three LNP seats, Burdekin, Mansfield and Mount Ommaney, became notionally Labor on the new boundaries. One Labor seat, Pumicestone, became notionally an LNP seat. Labor therefore went into the election with a notional 48 seats (up 4) to the LNP's 42 (no change). Twelve other seats were renamed, for no apparent reason: * Albert became Theodore * Ashgrove became Cooper * Beaudesert became Scenic Rim * Brisbane Central became McConnel * Cleveland became Oodgeroo * Dalrymple became Hill * Indooroopilly became Maiwar * Kallangur became Kurwongbah * Mount Isa became Traeger * Sunnybank became Toohey * Yeerongpilly became Miller STATE SUMMARY OF VOTES AND SEATS ==================================================================== Enrolled voters: 3,229,536 Total votes counted: 2,826,613 87.5 -10.3 Informal votes: 122,672 04.3 +02.2 Formal votes: 2,703,941 95.7 -02.2 -------------------------------------------------------------------- Party Votes % Seats -------------------------------------------------------------------- Australian Labor Party 957,890 35.4 -02.1 48 +04 Katter's Australian Party 62,613 02.3 +00.4 3 +01 Liberal National Party 911,019 33.7 -07.6 39 -03 Pauline Hanson's One Nation 371,193 13.7 +12.8 1 +01 The Greens 270,263 10.0 +01.6 1 +01 Others 130,963 04.8 1 -------------------------------------------------------------------- Total 2,703,941 93 +04 -------------------------------------------------------------------- * Labor won Aspley, Gaven and Redlands from the LNP. * The LNP won Bundaberg from Labor.
