QUEENSLAND ==================================================================== LEGISLATIVE ASSEMBLY ==================================================================== THE FIFTY-FIRST PARLIAMENT ELECTED 7 FEBRUARY 2004 ==================================================================== The Fifty-First Parliament was opened on 16 March 2004 and dissolved on 15 August 2006 Sources -------------------------------------------------------------------- Election Commission of Queensland, Queensland Parliament website Summary -------------------------------------------------------------------- Premier Peter Beattie led Labor to a third successive victory at this election, preserving almost intact the huge majority he won in 2001. The Labor vote dropped only slightly. Both the Nationals and Liberals increased their vote share, but this was mainly at the expense of One Nation and independents. They gained only five seats between them, two of them from One Nation. Lawrence Springborg remained Nationals leader despite the Coalition's heavy defeat. Bob Quinn was replaced as Liberal leader by Dr Bruce Flegg shortly before the 2006 election.
