Sources -------------------------------------------------------------------- Election Commission of Queensland, Queensland Parliament website Summary -------------------------------------------------------------------- Premier Peter Beattie led Labor to a crushing victory at this election, polling 48% of the vote and winning 66 seats, a gain of 22. The Nationals and Liberals were reduced to 28% of the vote and 15 seats between them (12 Nationals and three Liberals). One Nation's vote fell by more than half, and the party won only three seats (see table). Both Nationals leader Rob Borbidge and Liberal leader David Watson resigned after the election. Borbidge was succeeded by Mike Horan, but in February 2003 he was deposed and replaced by Lawrence Springborg. Borbidge resigned from Parliament and his seat was won at the by-election by an independent. Watson was succeeded by Bob Quinn.
